Respite in the Community

Respite in the Community is an individualized, person-centered process that assists each individual in obtaining access to the services, supports, and resources of their choice in the local community; with an end result to achieve each individual’s desired outcomes. This includes pursing new opportunities for recreation while also utilizing existing opportunities and natural supports in the Walla Walla Valley; introducing and maintaining creative, flexible, and supportive community resources and relationships for individuals with developmental disabilities.

Experienced and trained staff at Blue Mountain Industries pair with individuals and groups to access inclusive community settings which allow individuals with developmental disabilities to participate, interact, and integrate into our local community. While helping connect individuals to resources outside of the home, respite provides family, caregivers, and their loved ones with a break from daily care routine. Individuals served through Respite benefit from many professional and safe supports:

  • Increased inclusion in community activities
  • Increased or maintained ability to perform activities of daily living
  • Increased self-direction, self -determination, and self-reliance
  • Increased self-esteem
  • Increased community citizenship
  • Increased independence
  • Increased participation in meaningful activities
